Awash Systems Delivers Productivity and Water Savings for Truck Fleet Washing
Putting your best face forward in the transportation sector not only means courteous drivers and well-maintained vehicles, but it also means a clean truck. A clean fleet projects an image of a professional fleet.
However, while cleaning is a necessity, it is also a time consuming and big consumer of potable water. The logistics sector around Toronto Pearson is the largest consumer of potable water - and much of this water ends up washing tractors and their trailers. While on the time side, a proper hand wash can take up to 30 to 60 minutes to complete.
To help reduce this water consumption and speed up the time it takes to complete to wash a vehicle, Awash Systems, who is located in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone, provides an interesting solution - their PowerbrushH20 system utilizes a vertical brush on a movable platform that allows the operator to wash the vehicle with bio-degradable soap while walking around tractor and trailer. A thorough wash can be completed in as little as five minutes and use up to 80 per cent less water and soap.
Looking at the numbers, if a company was completing eight washes per day, they could save up to $30,000 per year in potable water costs alone in the Greater Toronto Area. While the big returns really come from increased productivity for staff, as more trucks can be washed in less time using the PowerbrushH20 system. For a cost of around $25,000 to install (the cost of a good power wash system using hot water), the system presents immediate savings for trucking companies.
From an installation standpoint, non floor-mounted tracks or hardware is required, and if you have a dedicated washing area – whether it is a washing bay, multi-use garage or an outdoor pad, the PowerbrushH20 system can be set-up easily in just about any situation.
Locally, Pearson Eco-Business Zone clients that are using the PowerbrushH20 system from Awash Systems include Maple Leaf Foods, Coach Canada, Husky Truck Stops, Pacific Western and QuickX. All of these companies have seen the benefit of getting cleaner trucks at a lower cost.
